Petro Star is the only Alaskan-owned refining and fuel marketing operation in the state. Two refineries, strategically positioned along the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, serve the unique fuel needs of Interior and Southcentral Alaska, Kodiak, and Dutch Harbor. As part of the Arctic Slope Regional Corporation (ASRC) family of companies, Petro Star helps power Alaska’s communities while offering our team members meaningful careers, opportunities for growth, and the chance to make a lasting impact across the state.
I joined Petro Star in 2022 looking for a change in my career that would support me in promoting a work life balance while offering the opportunity to learn and grow. However, my experience has turned into so much more than that. I am grateful to work with an incredible group of people who I respect and continuously learn from. I have also been given so many opportunities to understand the bigger picture of Petro Star's operations, which helps me to continue to develop my skills in an environment where I feel supported and valued.
—Mackenzie Carey, Assistant Controller
I started with Petro Star in 2010 as a laborer at Sourdough Fuel, a subsidiary of Petro Star and ASRC. I'm now the Assistant Refinery Manager at North Pole. That progression didn't happen by accident—it happened because Petro Star gave me room to grow and develop. As an ASRC shareholder, there's an added layer of pride in what we do here. We keep the planes flying, houses warm, and the lights on in the interior, while also giving solid returns to ASRC’s shareholders. If you're looking for a place that will invest in your career for the long haul, this is it.
—Stephen Brower, Assistant Refinery Manager, North Pole Refinery
I’ve been with Petro Star since 2019 and have had the opportunity to see our company from several angles, including inventory accounting, logistics, operations, pricing, and contracts. The variety has given me a broader understanding of how connected each part of our organization is and how decisions in one area can impact the overall operation. I appreciate that Petro Star provides employees with room to grow, learn new areas, and take ownership of responsibilities that serve ASRC shareholders. As a Native Hawaiian, I value the importance of honoring and carrying forward Indigenous history, traditions, and values, and I’m proud that my work supports ASRC’s broader commitment to Iñupiaq culture.
—Nathan Herrick, Contract & Operations Analyst
I’ve been with Petro Star since 2017, and it’s been a place of real growth—both professionally and personally. As an engineer and ASRC Shareholder, the work is meaningful. You’re challenged by complex problems and supported by a team that wants you to succeed. It’s more than a job—it’s a career with purpose.
